2013 Supports Fallen Heroes

Once again, Class Board partnered with the Minerva Initiatives on yet another book drive, this time to support the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund.  The Fund supports families of military personnel killed or severely wounded in action.  This semester, Class Board made the book drive even simpler.  We had our usual collective boxes around campus, but we even picked them at students’ doors and collaborated with the Penn Book Center to donate proceeds.

Harry Potter at Penn

Hogwarts has four schools.  Penn has four schools.  Penn students wish they went to Hogwarts.  So what better way to celebrate the release of Part 1 of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows than with a home school-themed tee shirt sale? College (Gryffindor), Wharton (Slytherin-who else?), Nursing (Hufflepuff), and Engineering (Ravenclaw) students attended the sold-out midnight showings decked out in their Harry Potter tees, purchased tees as holiday presents, and continue wearing the shirts around campus.

Class Board distributed free homecoming all-access passes to 2013ers, providing access to Saturday’s Quakerfest tailgate that featured free food, a beer garden, and live music.  After watching the Quakers defeat Brown, students attended an exclusive pre-screening of the Adam Sandler film Just Go With It, which was followed by a Q&A with Penn Alumnus Doug Belgrad, C’87, President of Columbia Pictures of Sony Pictures Entertainment.  Another 300 students obtained the latest Penn Traditions scarves, which they wore with pride throughout the weekend.

Tom DeLuca Hypnotist Show

Students packed Irvine Auditorium in order to be mesmerized by world-famous hypnotist Tom DeLuca.  Featured in The Wall Street Journal and on Good Morning America, Mr. DeLuca wowed the crowd (and some Class Board members brought on stage) with his hypnotic tricks.  Earlier in the week, the Board teamed up with Papa John’s and CampusFood to present the Tom Deluca “Deluca Deal” special, where students received a free slice of pizza and a $5 CampusFood gift card if they bought a ticket in advance.
